The B'nai Mitzvah is a very exciting time in a family and child’s life.  At Temple Solel we hope this will mark an important moment in your child’s’ Jewish journey. At a child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah, he or she leads the congregation in prayer, is called to the Torah to chant from this central scroll of Jewish life, and teaches the congregation. The New Seventh Grade Program seeks to complement traditional Jewish rituals/values and contemporary issues. Students will meet at Temple Solel six Thursdays per year from 4:30-6:00pm to discuss the following themes: Social Justice, Israel, Anti-Semitism and the Holocaust, Jewish Perspectives on Death and Dying, and Addiction. Additionally, students will take three field trips (on selected Sundays) to Los Angeles to explore Jewish Los Angeles, the Museum of Tolerance, the Holocaust Memorial Center, the Skirball Center, and volunteer at a Jewish Nonprofit Agency.Grade 7 students enrolled in the Bar/Bat Mitzvah program will work individually with a tutor for a half-hour each week beginning 9-10 months prior to their Bar/Bat Mitzvah date.
