Hebrew Opportunities Program - HOP
HOP is a very special program at Temple Solel. HOP provides one-on-one teaching of the Hebrew School curriculum to those students better suited to a program where they learn in an individualized manner. Determination of suitability for this program is done through conferencing between parents, the Hebrew School Director, and the School Director. Each HOP student proceeds at his or her own pace. Students can re-enter their appropriate class if it is determined that the student’s skills are appropriate to the level of class competency.
HOP students receive weekly thirty-minute tutorial sessions with a Temple Solel School teacher. Because of the specialized teaching and limited time, the curriculum focuses on what we consider the core prayers of the Jewish service, as well as those prayers that are required for becoming a B'nai Mitzvah.
There are no written tests. Students receive a written evaluation of their progress at the end of each year. The evaluation describes the progress and prayers learned. This evaluation is provided by the teacher to the Hebrew School Director and to the parents.
